2010-2011 School Year

This blog is dedicated to the study of God's creation through the eyes of me, Victoria. Every week I will spend one hour outside admiring the world around me. Normally, each week will be divided into 4 parts (Monday-Thursday, 15 min. a day). On this blog, I will document what I see around me- such as pictures, songs that come to mind, and/or a written synopsis of my experience that day. Enjoy!

Week 2: 10/18-10/24

PART 4-Thursday)
Tonight I went outside for 15 minutes around 8pm, so I was in the dark. Even though it was dark outside, the full moon was very bright and lit up the whole sky. I could see the clouds really well and saw that they looked like a bunch of cotton balls- it's really hard to describe. The weather was pleasant because it was not as cold as I was expecting it to be.

PART 3-Wednesday)
I went outside today around 5 in the evening. This is a picture of my dog, Dudley. I watched him run around the yard and bark at the neighbors, birds, and squirrels the whole time. The weather was nice.. like it has been the past two days.

PART 2-Tuesday)
I spent time outside from 6 p.m.-6:15 today. The weather was slightly breezy and there were only a few clouds in the sky. I couldn't believe it when I looked into my mom's garden and found a Texas native Horned Toad! It was about 6" long and didn't move at all while I was taking the picture. This was so neat because Horned Toads are actually becoming extinct, so it was neat to see one up close. These creatures are so amazing and I am so excited I got to see one "in the wild" and not in a zoo or other contained environment!

PART 1- Monday)
Today I noticed this flower in my backyard that I've never really paid too much attention to before. It has some really pretty shades of orange, red, and yellow in it. I found out that these flowers are called Cannas. I also noticed a few bees going up to these flowers and getting pollen. The whole 15 minutes I was sitting outside, there was one bird distinctly chirping and singing away! It must have been obscured by some trees or something because I was never able to see it. The weather was a nice 83 degrees today and the sun, although still bright, was covered by a few clouds. This was nice so that the sun wasn't directly in my face!

Week 1: 10/11-10/17

This week I decided to sit outside for a whole hour in one sitting. I waited until around 9:30 p.m. and went outside to lay on the trampoline. My trampoline has a tall net that goes around it on all sides, so when you lay down and look up at the sky, the outline of the net makes the sky looks like you are in a planetarium. It is really neat to see all the stars glistening. I have never really paid too close attention to the stars, and so it was neat concentrating on them and seeing that they actually do twinkle because they are fiery balls of hot fire millions of miles away. It is so amazing that God created the sun and the earth in perfect alignment and there is so much more of his creation beyond what human eyes can see from earth, such as stars and other planets. It is surprisingly cold at 9:45 at night, and I was actually shivering (Partially because I was wearing shorts and partially because I had no shoes)! Doing this project has really opened my eyes to see the wonders of the Almighty God and it is relaxing to just admire the landscape around you and forget all the craziness of everyday life just for a while.
